Mr. Valdez is the principal of Porterville High School. Before becoming a principal, he attended Orosi High, where he developed a love for basketball and baseball. Following his high school graduation, Mr. Valdez enrolled in College of the Sequoias (COS) for two years. He then transferred to Fresno State where he obtained his BA and MA. Mr. Valdez has always enjoyed working with students and loves aiding them in bringing out their true potential.
I had the pleasure of interviewing Mr. Valdez in hopes of getting to know him better as a principal and shedding light on his love for mentoring and being a Porterville Panther!

What is most challenging about your job?
“It’s challenging to balance different responsibilities. For example, making sure everyone’s needs are met. This job is constantly evolving.”
What message would you like to give to students for the 2023-2024 school year?
“Believe that your hard work, determination, and sacrifices will be rewarding. Anything in your path is achievable.”
What do you enjoy most about being a Panther?
“What I enjoy the most about my job is working alongside our amazing PHS Staff. They are all so positive and believe all students can learn. Preparing young people to be successful in college and career is also one of the joys of my job.”
You can find Mr. Valdez out and about on campus throughout the day (he’s usually somewhere by the quad during brunch, lunch, and after school). Be sure to say hello when you see him and introduce yourself!
