Aztec New Year
On March 12th each year, the Aztec New Year celebrates the start of the year according to the Aztec Calendar. It’s a date with plenty of symbolism, traditions, and celebrations. The holiday is special to Nahua communities in Mexico — groups of indigenous people who live in Mexico and parts of El Salvador. PHS celebrated it with a grand event. The campus organization VAPA (Visual And Performing Arts) encompasses clubs like the Drama Club Ballet de Folklorico, and Art Club. The Drama Club made masks of the Aztec gods. Ballet De Folklorico did a performance art ritual that was reminiscent of the ritual performed by the Aztecs to celebrate the New Year. It was an incredible experience. If you didn’t make it out this year, we hope to see you next year. Mark your calendars for March 12th, 2025!
