Porterville Football League Opener Thursday

The Varsity Football Team has their league opener at home this Thursday, September 29, 2022, @ 7:30 against Visalia’s Mt. Whitney High School. The Panthers have been on a roll this season with a record of 5-0. We asked head coach Keith Thompson what his thoughts were on going into League play undefeated which he replied “It’s great to see the work that we’ve been putting in during the offseason pay off but it doesn’t mean anything. These will be our toughest 5 games. We have good experience in our non-league games but these are the important ones”. When asked about the difference in this year’s team and what makes it so special? He shared, ” We are a lot healthier this year and what makes this team so special is we have great senior leadership that helps pave the way for the younger guys”.  A key factor in the Panther’s success this season has been the toughness of their Defense. The Defense has had success in pre-season games with constant stops forcing turnovers and allowing only 40 points to be scored so far this season. Not only is the Defense a key part of this 5-0 team but a lot of success has shined over the panther’s Offense. Some of the key leaders in this Offense are Senior Running Back, Jaret Garcia, Junior Quarterback, Rocky Arguijo, Senior Wide Receiver, Alfredo Nunez, and Junior Running Back, Samuel Alcantar. This will be the Panther’s last home game until The Granite Bowl on October 28, 2022. Dominating the ball on both sides so far, we hope to see the Panthers come out on top again this week against the Pioneers.
