October is known as Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This month is dedicated to bringing awareness and reflecting on research on this disease. What is Breast Cancer, you may ask? Breast Cancer is when abnormal cells grow out of control and make tumors that can spread. There are many different types of breast cancer, such as Invasive ductal carcinoma and Invasive lobular carcinoma. The type of cancer depends on what cells in the breast turn into cancer. The treatments vary from surgery, chemotherapy and different kinds of therapies. Something untrue that many uneducated people believe is that only women are the ones who can get this disease, but the truth is that both males and females can get this. Around 5 to 10 percent is linked to gene mutations brought on by family generations. It is suggested that women get their first mammogram from 40 to 44, but doing it earlier is better; a man should get a mammogram at 50 or earlier. Did you know that according to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, 1 out of 8 women in the United States gets diagnosed with breast cancer, an estimated 297,790 women and 2,800 men?
