Final Thoughts
Winter break is just around the corner, but before students get to enjoy the holidays, finals must be taken care of. The end of the semester is approaching, so now is the time to take accountability and ensure you’re passing all of your classes. The last two weeks of the semester are usually the most stressful for many students because some are trying to raise their grades, and others are preparing for their end-of-the-semester exams. There are currently tons of people stressing over their 89% in class, wondering if their teacher will round up their grade if they do well on their final. Most finals are usually only worth 10% of a student’s grade, but that 10% can be the make or break when your grade is hanging from a thread. Some teachers are more adequate than others and don’t make their students take a final if their grade is exceedingly high- percentage-wise. What is a final that is worth ten percent going to do to your grade if you’re already passing with a 98%?
Finals are designed for students to apply their knowledge accumulated from the semester in a specific context, whether it’s a test, a form of writing, etc. Usually, teachers give out what is called a “Finals Review” that students can use as a study guide to recollect what they learned throughout the whole semester and get a gist of what the final is going to consist of.
Math is arguably one of the most rigorous classes for many high school students, which is where the stump lies regarding end-of-the-year finals. Many students mentioned their jitters about their math final, which is pretty understandable considering the fact that math is not the easiest subject to grasp.
How you prepare will determine the outcome of your finals, so remember to study in advance and not just the night before!
