Take a look around campus, and you will see many students can be seen walking the halls with AirPods or headphones in. What makes students want to listen to music all day? It’s not only during passing periods or at lunch and brunch. Students can be found listening to music in class while the teacher is instructing a lesson. This constructs the big question: Who are each of these students listening to and why? There is a diversity of music out there. We live in the twentieth century, so music has changed over time. From Hip-Hop rock, and alternative, to K-pop, country, and rap, there are plenty of genres for students to get listen to. According to the Philadelphia Tribune, a person’s heartbeat mimics the beat of the music they listen to. As often as we see it (students listening to music) in class, you can only wonder: Does listening to music help or hinder concentration? Senior, Princessa Corrales shared, “I think it depends on what you’re doing. If I’m just working alone doing math, it (music) helps me concentrate. But if I’m reading for English, I probably shouldn’t be listening to music.” Music brings peace to some, while others may find it distracting in a classroom setting. Since students all have different tastes in music, we informally interviewed some here on campus to get a brief understanding of what our students are listening to, and if they listen to music while in class.

This is so good! The different music taste of each student says a lot about them!
