Our Boys and Girls Varsity Cross Country team had their first invitational meet Friday in Hanford at Sierra Pacific. About twenty-five schools competed, and the race consisted of a two-mile course. The cross country team had been practicing in the oppressive heat all summer. Temperatures still haven’t dropped, yet the team is still working hard. For those who don’t know much about cross country, it is a running sport where athletes compete against other individuals. Races are scored based on the place you come in. An individual who places first will be given one point and so forth. In most sports, the team with the most points is considered to be the winner, but not in cross country. Essentially, teams want to have the lowest score possible. We interviewed our panthers to get to know them as runners. Here is what a few of them had to say.
