Girls’ Water Polo loses to Garces Memorial

Yesterday, October 12, the  Girls’ Water Polo Team played the Garces Rams. This game was tougher than the previous games the team has had this season, and they just came back from a long weekend tournament. Before the game, the team was very nervous, primarily because Garces is always a great team. There were a few personnel changes during this game. For example, Senior Ahna Davis usually plays goalie, and in this game she played in the “field” and made a few goals. With seconds left in the last quarter, the Girls successfully made the last goal for the game. The final score was 8-22.
Here’s what Coach Evan Thomas had to say about yesterday’s game, “I thought the game went well even though the score wasn’t great. They beat us pretty good but we knew they were a good team. Since we normally score about 8, I expected a little less so I think that was good. Claire Lee did really well on defense, she shut down their best scorer pretty well. I think we got down pretty far at the beginning of the game, and when we shifted Ahna Davis from goalie to out in the field, she did way better for us. I think everything after the first quarter should be highlighted. Once you get down in a game like that, you tend to give up on your team, give up on everything, and we didn’t do that. We kept going and trying to score, getting back on the defensive and helping each other. After what happened in the first quarter, we kept pushing to get back into the game. It was really cool to see the girls not give up. We’re going to play them again in a week or two and hopefully we can get a little closer next time.”
The team will play again on October 18th at home game against Tulare Western at 5:30 pm.
