The bird flu outbreak is an H5N1 virus that occurs during direct contact with infected waterfowl or poultry. This virus adapts to new mammalian hosts, raising the possibility of the virus spreading between human contact with surfaces contaminated with the viruses. Which targets many animals, some of the main ones being chickens, turkeys, ducks, etc. This virus has been around since March 2024 and is currently ongoing all around the world. It’s what’s causing many economic problems, one being the skyrocketing egg prices! You’ll enter a grocery store, and the cheapest you’ll find a 60-carton egg is 43.99 at Walmart, which is insane. Not only did it affect our economy due to the mass killings of these animals to prevent the virus from spreading. This virus is easily spread from animals to humans through any form of contact, whether physically or through the foods and products they produce.
Fun Fact: To help prevent the spread of this virus, they won’t be showing chickens or turkeys at the fair because the virus can quickly spread.
