Meet Aiden Fernandez, a senior student attending Porterville High, who is avidly documenting the glorious history that Porterville High has to offer. We sat down with him and asked him a couple questions about his historical project!
What inspired you to start this project?
”Well, I’ve always liked learning about Porterville’s history, and I really liked looking at pictures of Main Street. I’ve been curious about our school’s history ever since my freshman year!”
What’s your favorite piece of history that you’ve found?
“Probably the first edition of the El Granito (1907), which was originally called the Orange & Green!”
How long do you plan on continuing this project?
”I’m planning on starting it as a club with Ms. Padilla, so I’d say as long as possible. People can continue looking through archives if they want!”
Do you have help from others or is this a solo project?
“I would like help from others, and a couple of seniors have actually expressed interest in helping me.”
Do you have any challenges running this project?
“Yes, a major challenge is making things look aesthetically appealing. I would like some passionate, artistic people to help things look cuter. Another challenge is the cost of certain items.”
Let’s be real, it’s extraordinary that Porterville has such history yet to be discovered. It’s even better since we have our fellow panther Aiden aiding this, but there is so much more to discover. To further leave his mark Aiden wants to start a club pertaining to our school’s historical journey. Not only our schools, but Porterville itself even. Don’t be lame, get involved especially with something as cool as this!
