Crumbl brought us a Thanksgiving line of pies during the week of November 25-30. We tried a few of their entries into the pie market: PUMPKIN PIE, COOKIES & CREAM PIE, KEY LIME PIE, FRENCH SILK PIE, APPLE PIE, and PECAN PIE. Here are our thoughts:
Alex’s Review of the Key Lime Pie
The key lime pie I tried was visually stunning, small and round with whipped cream swirled into cute little star forms around the edges, topped with a small slice of key lime in the middle. The pie emitted a very strong and potent citrusy aroma, with an unexpected hint of tortilla. Upon tasting, the texture was soft and mushy, with a slight crunch from what seemed to be graham cracker pieces, but overall, it felt and tasted like baby food. The flavor was disappointingly unbalanced, not very sweet, and not very “citrusy”; instead, it was almost acidic in a rotten way, perhaps due to an unripe key lime. Despite its phenomenal presentation, the taste did not meet my expectations, leaving me unimpressed. Although I had no prior expectations since I had never tasted key lime pie before, the experience confirmed my suspicion that it might not be to my liking.
Krisenda’s Review of the Apple Pie
Although America loves apple pies (me included!), I feel as though this pie did not live up to those expectations. The pie’s presentation was honestly quite shocking. I really liked the pie’s crust, but it was far too crumbly for my expectations. The baked crust reminded me of shortbread cookies, which I actually enjoyed. However, the apple filling in the pie was gooey to the touch and had a very tart taste to it. When I bit into the pie, the crust crumbled away and the apple filling left a sour taste in my mouth. There were bits of cinnamon on top, but they didn’t add flavor to the overall pie. The price of this pie also doesn’t match its size because the pie is around $6, and the pie is 3×3 inches. I feel as if it’s overpriced, but all Crumbl products are overpriced. I would not recommend this pie to anyone because it’s’ just not worth it. I’d recommend a Walmart apple pie instead, as those are actually good.
Jazz’s Review of the Pecan Pie
The pecan pie’s appearance was well detailed and made just right. Though the top was bubbly looking, the flavor dismissed that. The cookie smelled nutty (of course). The cookie’s design did quite match its flavor and it was well balanced with sweet and some savory. The crust was milky – just like all of the usual cookies Crumbl releases, it consisted of the same base. Though the crust did taste slightly different, it was still really delicious. The quality of the cookie did in fact match its price, which is usually 6-8$ per mini cookie. So, I’d say I’d definitely recommend the pecan pie to anyone wondering if it is worth it or not: Trust me, it is infact worth it. If the pecan is good, then you know all of them might just be better.
Maritza’s Review of the Cookies & Cream Pie
I recommend their cookies and cream pie for those with an extremely sweet tooth. It has a cookie crust at the bottom and whipped cream on the edges, and is topped with small pieces of crushed Oreos. It has a soft, sweet buttery, ice cream smell. As you take a bite you can feel the soft oreo cookie crust at the bottom with the creamy whipped cookies and cream. Just like its name it tastes like cookies and cream. For being my first time trying cookies and cream pie, I think it was good, but once again I recommend this for people who like sweeter treats. For the price of $3 ,I think it’s a steal. Overall I give this pie a 9/10.
Cienna’s Review of the Key Lime Pie
The Key lime pie smells as though I put lemon on a taco, with a tortilla scent. The citrus smell is faint, yet it’s pleasant enough; the scent of citrus lingers. Appearance-wise, it looks pleasing, with whipped topping swirled up all around the pie and a tiny key lime in the middle. It was adorable, specifically for its small, cute design. Once I’d bitten into the pie, it had that citrusy tang, almost a bit too sour. The whip topping smelt the most tangy yet the least sour. The whip had a bitter-sweet sort of taste with a soft texture. The crust was disappointing; I didn’t put the CRUMBLE in CRUMBL. The pie’s core consistency was pleasing; it was smooth, almost melting in your mouth. The overall pie was somewhat stiff; I could quite literally lift the whole pie with my PLASTIC fork. To clarify, crumbl could have, and has, ten times better servings. Key lime pie should be balanced, with a sweet yet tangy and slightly sour crust containing a perfect crumble where it breaks, leaving crumbs perfectly. This is NOT key lime pie. The pie’s design takes the cake overall, which makes this review so disappointing, not only on my behalf. Looks are deceiving; judge the book by the cover in this case. The Key lime pie matches the overall design, but that’s only based on looks. Let’s be honest. The overall best thing about the pie itself is it lives up to its looks as a key lime pie. Improvements could be made to the texture and overall taste, making the taste more similar to the regulated key lime pie with a nice consistency. Honestly, these pies are incomparable to Crumbl’s regular cookies. Adding something different is nice; it would give a whole new opportunity, although based on the overall covering of this review, Crumble should stick to cookies. Walmart’s tiny pies are better than this. Another place with liveable expectation pies would be Black Bear Diner, which has a perfect consistency and texture that favors your taste buds. To conclude our enjoyable adventure into Crumbl, I wouldn’t want any friends to try the pies, specifically key lime. If anyone likes it, it gives more freedom, but I would only want people who enjoy trying new things, or Crumbl lovers, to taste this icky pie if you enjoy bitter-sweet stiff pie. These pies were, in total, around the 70 dollar range, adding to tax. This is for three packs; it wasn’t worth the price, especially if it made some of my peers spit their pies out, even the key lime.
Evelyn’s Review of the Pumpkin Pie
What I tried from Crumbl is their pumpkin pie. The presentation to the pumpkin pie looks very delicious, the whip cream was neatly around the crust, It smells like a good normal pumpkin pie, and It is a little cold. The whip cream is really tasty and creamy, the texture of the crust is surprisingly chewy and has flavors to it. The crust over powers the pumpkin taste if you don’t get enough of the pumpkin part and the pumpkin part itself has a strong taste too. Compare to other pumpkin pies I have tried, Crumbl Pies is the best pumpkin pie I have ever tasted. The crust to a store bought pumpkin pie is really dry and has no flavor while the Crumbl one is chewy not dry at all. The store bought pumpkin pies would be really crumbly and make a mess, while Crumbl Pies are not crumbly. I would definitely recommend this menu item because the presentation was perfect, the texture of the crust and the pumpkin part was perfect it wasn’t crumbly or oily. This Crumbl pie is not unique because there is a bunch of pumpkin pies everywhere but I do believe the quality of the pie does match the price. From the presentation and to the taste. The texture is perfect and the crust and the pumpkin taste is well balanced.
Natalie’s Review of the Cookies & Cream Pie
This week, Crumbl came out with a unique line up for thanksgiving; a pie week. All of the flavors looked delicious, but since I’m an oreo lover I decided to try the cookies and cream pie. At first glance I noticed that the pie was decorated with oreo crumbs, this immediately drew me in. It was also loaded with whip cream that covered the whole surface of the pie. The first bite surprised me, I wasn’t expecting them to nail the flavor so well. The texture of the filling was silky and smooth, the oreo crust added a nice crunch. The whip cream made the oreo flavor not as overpowering, however I thought that there was too much of it. The cookies and cream pie reminded me of crumbl’s oreo cheesecake. Even though the pie was good, it did not top the cheesecake. However, I did overall enjoy it. I would only fix minor details to make it perfect. I would recommend this pie to any oreo lover, and I would purchase again
Our consensus: the only pies worth enjoying from this lineup were the Pecan and the Cookies & Cream flavors. So, if those are offered again, check them out. Everything else? Meh. Don’t worry, we’ll do our due diligence and review Crumbl again for y’all. It’s a tough job, but someone has to do it.
Comment below if you tried out the pie collection from Crumbl and if you liked/disliked the offerings.
