Have you ever wondered what a math teacher’s day in life may look like? One may assume their day is full of math problems and telling kids to behave, but that’s only partially right. Ms. Vielma starts her day off strong with a nice shower to get a fresh start to her day!! This is followed by washing her face and brushing her teeth to help her wake up and be ready for the day. She picks her outfit for the day and fills her hydro flask; Ms. Vielma always says, “Water Check.” Now, she heads out and starts her drive to work. She arrives around 7:40 am, and the first thing she starts her day off is reading her bible. “It is essential to start your day off with God,” Vielma insists. She prepares for the day so it rolls out smoother, whether printing worksheets, working out warms up, notes, etc. She then starts her teacher work day from 8:30-3:40. She uses this time to enhance their understanding of math in education and fun. During her prep, she grades missing assignments and preps for the next week to help herself get ahead! She loves to engage and build strong relationships with her students. After school, she will have her classroom open for about 20 minutes to help the kids who may have questions, missing assignments, or need extra help. She will head home around 4:30, and she starts cooking with her best friend once she gets home! She then usually depends on what days she has worship team practice from 6-9. Fun Fact: she’s a great drummer. She usually spends her time deep cleaning on days she doesn’t have practice!
After her long day of work, practice, and church, she’ll end her night around 10:30, calling it a day.
Ms. Vielma is adored by many. I asked one of her students what she looks forward to most when going to Ms. Vielmas class. The student said, “I look forward to math class everyday because I love the way she teaches and the energy she brings to the class overall!” Although math isn’t the easiest subject to learn, it’s safe to assume Ms. Vielma works hard to now only make math fun to learn but creates a safe learning environment for her students as well.
