According to Valley Children’s Healthcare Network, childhood cancer affects more people than you might realize:
“Every day in the United States, approximately 43 children are diagnosed with cancer. In 2018 alone, Valley Children’s oncology department newly diagnosed 161 children with cancer and cared for a total of 1,256 children with cancer. The diagnosis is only the first step in a long and harrowing journey that often lasts a lifetime; as treatments for childhood cancer leave lasting impacts on a child’s health and emotional well-being as they grow into adulthood.”
September is National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Z-Club is hosting its first service project of the year. Z-Club encourages our entire school to get involved by donating a NEW toy, board/card game, or stuffed animal to Valley Children’s Hospital. Patients ranging from ages 1-18 will appreciate any donations our school provides. It’s important that donated items are NEW for sanitary reasons (people who receive treatments for cancer are immunocompromised, meaning their immune systems are weaker than usual).
All students who donate can receive a “Community Service Hours Verification” form from Ms. Padilla in H-204. Donations can be dropped off to H-204 (Ms. Padilla’s classroom) or S-3 (the ASB room).
