Happy Earth Day!! Earth Day is an annual event that happens every April 22nd. It is meant to be seen as a day of action to demonstrate the environmental protocol that must be followed before it becomes too late and there is no going back.
The first-ever ‘Earth Day’ dates back to April 22, 1970. According to Wikipedia, it comments, “In 1969 at a UNESCO Conference in San Francisco, peace activist John McConnell proposed a day to honor the Earth and the concept of peace, to first be observed on March 21, 1970, the first day of spring in the northern hemisphere.” This inspired Senator Gaylord Nelson to propose holding a worldwide environmental lesson to help others become educated on the topic. He hired the activist Denis Hayes, an environmental advocate and an advocate for solar power, to be the National Coordinator, helping him later rise in prominence. The narrative behind Earth Day is to enlighten the public and push this issue onto the national agenda because it has become a wake-up call for people worldwide to look into what should be done to help better the Earth. A narrative people fail to realize is that the pollution within our communities hurts not only Earth and us humans but also animals and creatures worldwide. We start polluting their habitats, causing many to go and find new homes to which they need to adapt or end up with no homes. As the waters become toxic, all those animals in the oceans, seas, and beaches start eating or getting stuck on the plastics and littered trash. It has become normal to throw out our trash or unwanted furniture to random places where it only continues to pile up, so let’s make a change and join together to make a change and protect the Earth and generations of humans and animals to come!
